Advice Needed

I took the Twerps downtown to get some cute pics of them before summer's end.
But there were WAY too many distractions for them to have time to take a pic. And I was not pleased with ANY of the photos. So I need you help and advice on what I should have done differently.
Uhm, first can someone talk to Eldest Twerp about sitting like a lady? Who is her mother? Don't answer that.
I know. I know. Shadows.
And IJ's arm...
And no foucus....fuzzy...grainy. Should I have been closer? And this looked like such a cool backdrop....
But it was doing nothing for me here... I wanted the pic to be about the kids....
but they all turned out to be about the mural...it was like the kids were in the way....
Okay! Forget it...let's go play....Help! What would you have done differently?

hmmm....well people are one of the hardest things for me to take pictures of...BUT, I probably would have gotten closer, its hard to see the kids expression in the pictures.

andyeah the coke sign...definately a cool idea, but I think you would need bigger people to stand out more..

still though...the pictures are by no means bad!!

Since I am the worst photographer on the planet,I can offer no advice. I just wanted to tell you they were cute pics anyway.

here are my thoughts, not that they are professional by any means!

get in closer. the wide angle shots are good, but you lose focus of the twerps, and if you want them to be the subject, you gotta get in there!

stay away from bright direct sunlight. stay in the shadows - keep them completely in if you can help it. the bright sun washes out the colors and creates really drastic shadows on faces, like from their noses.

another idea for the mural is have the twerps standing several feet in front of it, so they are up close to you, but the mural is still in the b/g... it will be blurred out a little, but colorful enough to add interest.

learn you some photoshop. you can crop out the distracting things, like too much mural or IJ's arm, which will zoom in on the twerps. dont' get in too tight though or it will be too pixely and grainy. elements is super easy! i will teach you, young grasshopper.

i personally, like the more candid shots that aren't posed - especially of kids.

k that's all. bye.

I actually like several of them very much...
The 1st,3rd,4th ones are adorable..I agree the backdrop of the coca cola sign is cool but it swallows up your twerps it is the focus instead of them...
what the heck do I know....I can barely turn on my camera

Your lil twerps are beautiful!

Seeing as my boys cannot sit still for longer than 2.3 seconds I think you did pretty good. Would taking their pictures individually and then photo shopping them together be wrong??

You need to zoom in on the kids and no worry so much about the backdrops...try different angles. Not that I am a better photographer! I just do a lot of surfing....

I am not a professional either but here is what I have found in my pretend photographer moments..It's all about connections. You will find you get better pics if they aren't so posed. Watch them interact with each other over a beloved toy, book etc. Have them whisper to each other.. anything to get a genuine laugh or expression that they make all the time. Try not to have over busy backgrounds. The Coke background is awesome if you move in close and just have the red or green behind them. Green would be great for your daughter to contrast with the pink. Try to look for shade if it's possible. The above suggestion of having them in front of the sign but further away is great. Especially if they are drinking a coke. What mode are you using on your camera? The fifth picture is really awesome!

color coordinate their outfits- not matchy matchy, but in the same color family. and zoom in.

great suggestions....i am gonna re-dress them in coordinating clothes and go back. i am also gonna try a cloudy day and try to get the twerps closer to the camera and the sign in the background maybe even a little blurry.

this is why i love you peeps

Were they distracted because they wanted to go inside and have candy?? Love the coke sign at the side of the building!
