I Am A Dancin Queen

Eldest Twerp has her first school dance tomorrow night. Her. First. Dance. This growing up thing is stinkin like Limburger cheese. And I will be chaperoning cause that is the kinda overprotective mother I am. She needs to just embrace it early on. It will save her thousands in therapy one day.

Anyhoo, it is a pajama party dance so we will be jammie shopping tonight. I just thought I would warn you, cause you know you will be getting pics and all. I apologize in advance, but we can now make no decisions in our lives without asking you first. That is just how we roll now.

In anticipation of this dance, the PE teacher just completed a "dancing unit" during PE class time. And ET has been showing me her moves.

Just this morning she let me know there would be five "core dances" I should know. Exsqueeze me???? Is she under the assumption that I will be dancing at this dance? Ha ha hoo hoo hee hee giggle giggle snort. Uhm, jump back and rewind.

So she began her demo of the Cotton Eyed Joe, Electric Slide, Jive, Car Wash, and Macarena. And, of course, I jumped right in so we could dance duet together. Soon, the frustration began.

"Mom! What dances are you doing?"

"That was the Cotton Eyed Joe!"

"No it wasn't, Mom!"

"Yes it was. I know the Cotton Eyed Joe like the back of my hand"

{rolling her eyes} "Our PE teacher warned us this might happen."

"What might happen???"

"That our parents would function under the 90's versions. He was right, this could be embarrassing."

Uhm, exsqueeze me? Who is this PE teacher anyways? I think he and I might need a little dance off. Poor ET. Be ready, she might need blog therapy Saturday morning.

She is growing up so fast. Okay I will set aside time tonight to pj shop with you!

I remember for my brother's first dance, my grandma tried to teach us a few moves. I don't think the kids were going the jitterbug back in the 70's. It is a cute memory though

Uh, not that you are anything like my grandma or anything, uhm, no, that is not what I meant at all. except the cute part.

I believe this is the exact same conversation that I've had with at least one of my daughters. CRACK ME UP!! I can so see you breakin' it down. You need to show Mr. PE a thing or two...and I want video. =)

This is hilarious!!! I've not had the opportunity to chaperone a dance yet but I did chaperone Jr. Prom after party and that was painful enough! You GO CG, work it out, break it down, shake your booty..you show Mr. PE who can dance girl!

Ack! I'm so not ready for this phase. Thank goodness we have a few more years till it hits.

I hope she has a fantastic time but I won't hold my breath- I remember Jr. high (shudder!)

I love it!!!
I remember when I first chaparoned my daughter's first Jr High dance. She was mortified that I was there. But the funny thing is her friends always came over to me to give me hugs cuz I'm a cool Mom like that. I'll be doing the same when my son goes to Jr high. :)
