So my husband was in the AF Force for 13 years and has now been in the Reserves for 3 years. The entire time of his duty I have spent my fair share going to Air Force "functions" -- i.e. graduations, dinners, balls, etc. I have enjoyed it immensely. I love the pride and the spirit of integrity that is present. I stand a little taller and am a little more confident in my life when they begin to sing the Air Force theme song. It is touching -- I cry. I know I am a sap, but I cry. I even have goose bumps on my arms. My heart swells. That is my man – serving our country, looking fine in his uniform – yes, he is single handedly keeping terrorists out of your backyard.
Anyways, we were in the car the other day, and I was thinking about how wonderful our military servicemen are, so in honor of them I began to sing the Air Force "theme" song…I am sure you have heard it…
"Off we go into the wild blue yonder
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At'em boys, giv'er the gun!
Down we dive spouting our flames from under,
Off with one hell-uv-a roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame,
Nothing'll stop the US Air Force!"
The end is so climatic. I began my build up for the dramatic ending….
We live in fame or go down in flame…
(Oh I could feel the goose bumps coming…)
Here we come...a-yippee-ki-aye
My sweet dear hubby looked at me with the look of, "You did not just say that, did you?" I could tell immediately that must not be the correct lyrics…He corrected me.
And yet again, DIDN'T I FEEL SILLY.
