This is my great grandma's farm house back on the farm in Indiana. It is a few yards from my house I grew up in. Grandma and Auntie always had time for us. Not only had time, but made time. It was built over 100 years ago. I canned tomatoes, shucked corn, snapped green beans, cheated at old maid, and was loved in this house.
What do you think restore it or take the logs from it and build our own home?

no plans on moving yet...although if the opportunity was available, i would in a heart beat
What a beautiful old home. I would love to see the inside. That house has character and memories and is part of who you are. If it's sound I would restore it.
I say take the logs and build your own. I have been in the house and it would take too much work to restore it. Someone has take down a log house and rebuilt it just off of the down square and it looks great. You could do that too. You could get a little futher back into the woods and it would be great.

Restore!! By all means. You'll never be sorry about doing that, but once you tear into it and it's gone, it's gone forever. It may cost more, but it will be worth it!
I love that house! I would think it would be so grand to restore it, but the reality is that it probably would be way too much work. I would built my own. I'm so happy for you! What a cool thing! Is it really going to happen? I'm excited to read blog posts about the future experience...

Ohhhh...that is my kind of house! It is fantastic! I would love to have that big of a porch...I have a stoop right now!
I think it would be great restored...if it didn't need a ton of work. Otherwise, use the wood and rebuild. It sure looks like a home where a lot of memories were made...so make your own memories...either way!
I would totally restore it! Including a new roof;).
Lovely old house.
I remember a house just like that! When I was young Grandma would make me cinnomon bread with cream poured over it and some of the best sugar popcorn I have ever eaten. I remember her fixing large meals for the crews that would come in to do the threashing. I'm talking HUGE. I remember Saturday nights at grandma's-Gunsmoke on TV and sleeping upstairs (in a room with no heat) with her in the softest bed I ever knew. Most of all I remember sitting on the front porch in the evenings listening to the wipperwhils and watching her rock-rock-rock in her old rocking chair. I remember grandma reading to me about the tortise and the geese from I think her fourth grade grammer book. That was my favorite story. I still have that book. Grandma always had TIME! Grandma and that old farm house were the best. Ahhhhh to only go back?

You should definitely restore it. Houses have a memory of their own, and a way of connecting people and generations like nothing else.
