This Book...

I have a deep dark secret to confess about myself. One that I try to hide cause it is kinda embarrassing, but dag-gone-it, I must come forth and be honest. I. have. an. addiction. to. thrift. shops. And I cannot stay away. I scour the ends of the earth in thrift shops for three things...

1. Depression Glass
2. First Edition Books
3. Children's Books

And today, oh glorious wonderful today...I found this.... Copyright 1970...and the book that holds more memories for me than any other book. I remember sitting on our burnt orange and black wool plaid chair by our front door on my mamma's lap for hours being read to from this book.

This book is here I learned a good tongue twister.
The book is where my brother would giggle to pieces over the pigs.

This book is where I learned to count to 10.
This book is where I learned how to be a good spouse. This book is where I decided to name my first born Sukey. Eldest Twerp thanks God above that I forgot.
This book is where I learned birth control is essential.
And this book is what I shall pass on.

Thanks, Mom.

I still have that book, and a whole collection of Richard Scarry that my mother kept for me to pass along. My boys love them, and I admit. I sneak a peek at them every now and again too.

I loved this book, too! My MIL kept all my husband's childhood books and sent them to us when we had a baby. When I opened the box, I was happy to see this and other Richard Scarry books. I can't wait until my son is old enough to look at them with me! I hope your kids love it!

Isn't it astounding what memories and emotions a single book from our childhood can give to us? I have a few of those from my own childhood.

It makes me more aware of the books that I share with my boys, wondering which one will flood them with *that feeling* when they see and read it in their adulthood.

Congratulations on your awesome thrift store treasure!

Don't feel embarrassed about your your confessions. It's makes other people know they can come out of the closet.
I, too, collect depression glass. My grandmother collected the Amber Madrid pieces during the depression. The set was given to my mother when she married and then passed on to me when I got married.
I, too, have a Richard Scarry book. In fact, I have several, but NONE are in as good of condition as that one. WTG!! That is an awesome find!!
