My Daughter

As I take Eldest Twerp to school in the mornings, I have learned that if I let the car stay quiet for a few minutes, she will open up with whatever is on her mind.

She looked at me this morning and asked, "Mom, when is the last time you wore that outfit?"

Strange enough question, but I answered her and waited.

She thought for awhile and said, "Lindsay wears the same shirt three days a week."

I have no idea who Lindsay is, and I can tell she is waiting for my reaction.

"Oh, is it cute?" I ask.

"Kinda," ET says.

"Well, I know I have some shirts I wanna wear everyday cause they are SO cute. Do you feel like that?"

ET lets it all out,"We were at lunch yesterday and I was sitting by Lindsay and she had the same shirt on...again and Shawn yelled at Lindsay 'Do you wear the same shirt because you are poor?' and everyone heard."

"Wow, what did you do?"

"I said she probably wore it cause she likes it. And then he said Lindsay and I liked each other like lovers. Then everybody in the cafeteria laughed like hyenas."

"Wow, what are you gonna do?"

"Well, I can abandon her and have other friends that cause less of all this. But I know how it feels and I can't do that to her. Plus, she is the only one who picked me in PE class when I was all alone for weeks."

I looked away so she could not see the tears. She inspires me.

I am going now to burn a bag of poop on Shawn's front step because I am not as mature as ET. Would anyone like to join me?

Whoever said being a kid was easy, obviously does not remember being one. That girl rocks my socks off!!! I think you should keep her!! :-)

Wow! Kids can be so mean. My throat has a lump in it with the reality of that situation. Whoa. I eat lunch everyday with my daughters at school, and I see much of that. The table behind me, everyday, certain girls have to sit by each other so that other certain girls cannot sit beside them. They will guard chairs with their feet. It's sad because the other girls just stand there with trays in their hand and look around like, what do I do? My daughter was one of those un-fortunate girls one day. I stood up, pushed two girls apart while in their chairs, pulled a chair up to the table, and sat my daughter right down. Told the girls we need to worry about eatting and not about who is sitting where. My husband told me I need to let daughter stand up for herself. It's just so hard watching kids and how they can be so mean. Bring on the poop!

Count me in on the poop. Can I smear black stuff under my eyes and weare camo? That'd be so cool!

Tell ET now I know why I have a heart! So I could be just like she is. I love it when someone like her, lets the world know there is still a whole lot of good kids out there. She is definately one of them. I am so proud of her! I wish I could be around her all the time. She inspires me. I am going to ask the Great OZ (God) to give her a special blessing today!

ET is such a lovely girl. Sounds like she has a great mom.
I think elephant poop would be more appropriate.

this is kind of like the story of the Walnut tree! She is so much like you!

Shawn is a bully and that remark is worth reporting... IMO.

I will be glad to join you! I also have a large dog who can leave a pretty stinky calling card some days! Thank Goodness for good caring kids like ET! I could feel the water works starting just reading your post, can't imagine hearing the conservation in person. Kids can be so cruel, they have no idea what it can do. I still can recall a girl named Miranda telling me I annoyed her because I breathed too loud! and because her name was before her, I got to share a table with her in art class all year, and she told me just about every day, what could I do stop breathing?

AND pee in his bushes! (plus maybe a little anony note to the principal so they can keep an eye on a bully like Shawn, cause it won't get better!)

That was so sweet & grown up of her. You are doing a great job as a mom. Why do kids have to be so mean & where do they learn it from? I know there is too much crap on TV but there must be more to it.

By the way when are going to burn the poop? I'm in!

You could smash some pumpkins or leave some fruit. However, if a fat 42-year old is mad enough to chase you down, get out of there the cops will be coming!!!

Tell "IJ" he was right, I bought a new heating element and put it on. Took me awhile because I'm an accountant Jim not a repairman. Well needless to say it did not work so that was $38 bucks I could have put to a new one.
