Euchre Schmuchre

After Christmas dinner we dealt the cards to embark in the greatest game known to mankind: Euchre (You - Ker) I remember as a child sitting on my dad's lap watching him hold his cards close and throw them into the center of the table and then inevitably rakin them in. There was a lot of hootin and hollerin and middle names that were broken out. The laughs were loud. The times were great. the warmth was felt.
I also remember waking up to the cold wind stinging my checks as my dad would carry me out to the car. And this was how we spent our weekends. -- Euchre was our game. Dominance was our name.
And now....we continue the tradition. This is a hills of southern Indiana game that has monopolized many a Saturday night and many a marriage. And this night, we started out best 2 out of 3. Which soon lead to best 3 out of 5.
And then as I BEGGED for mercy, best 4 out of 7. I am a sore loser. They refused my request for best 5 out of 9. I think they were skeered. I had em shakin in their boots and all.

Love card games. Mr Mine and his family have introduced me to joy of canasta. Fabulous game. Mr. Mine suggests a good card game for sore losers...it's called, I Win. He plays it all the time. ;o)

I can tell your mom was having a good time. I love that one where she has her arms folded while IJ is probably spreading his tail feathers about how good he is and how he is going to win.

A picture paints a thousand words.

Yep! Euchre is strictly MI, IN and OH. Isn't that funny? I have no idea how or why the rest of the country doesn't know about this fun game. We played it for hours back in high school and in my college days. Try to take this out of the midwest, though, and you'll get people looking at you like you sprouted two heads.

:o)

When we were kids and lived on South Side of Chicago, my parents and their friends played Euchre & Canasta too! I never learned though. Probably a good time though!

Here in N. Illinois, we are Euchre players too. Your childhood memories are very similar to mine. Dad and Uncles playing Euchre, drinking Old Style, we kids on the boundaries. And when we asked for a sip of their beer, they'd say "Sure, honey."

Ahh, the good old days. We still play at Christmas, with my grandpa who is paralized on one side from a stroke, my dad gone, my brother taking his place, etc. Not exactly the same, but still fun. Our tradition. Good ole Euchre.

"I'll shake 'em, you rake 'em."
That's our favorite line, among many others. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
