Five Years Ago: A Story of Birth and Guns

This was me 5 years ago today. Young, naive, fat, and perfect. I LOVED being pregnant. I really did. Every second of it. to think that I had a child growing in me -- nothing else could compare. And this child? Oh, this child. For this child I had prayed and cried and pined and hoped and dreamed and waited. And waited. And I wanted nothing more. And when he came into this world, I had his song playing....from me to him....At Last. (Obama so stole it from us.)At Last, my love had come. At Last, my lonely days were over. And he has filled every void and then some. This child...this child is a miracle...at last.A fat, happy miracle. And when my water broke in the teacher's lounge 5 years ago today, I had no idea the depth of love and the journey of acceptance I would begin. At 10 weeks, we were told he was gone....dead. And at one last ditch for a sign of life in an ultrasound, we saw him....with the hiccups. WITH THE HICCUPS! Thank God for hiccups. At 10 weeks. And he has been bringing life to us ever sense. He lives in the moment. Takes joy in everything and loves so strongly.
Except when his brother takes one of his 5-year-old spiderman cupcakes. The it is on like Donkey Kong.Cause it is all rainbows and kittens until someone touches the spiderman cupcakes. But there were still MORE than enough for the party. After we counted -- forty eleven times. Cause he is anal... like his father.
Then I was off to Wal Mart to get the MUCH requested Nerf gun WITH A SCOPE. Uhm, OVERWHELMING. How many Nerf guns with scopes are there? I can do barbies. I know my Cabbage Patch...but GUNS? I am totally out of my league. This is the mother of all Nerf guns with scopes....but it is over 3 feet long!! And it says for 6 or older. BUT...I think this might be the one he saw some other kid have. Can he even hold THIS?This also has a scope and is less large. Some would say smaller. Those some would not have a 5 year old. Cause it is LESS LARGER. And I think a MUCH more appropriate choice.
So what did I do? What would a GOOD MOTHER do? Uhm, I don't know. They do not have a good mother...they have me. So, I got the MOTHER of all Nerf guns. OKAY OKAY. I got TWO mother of all Nerf guns. Cause what fun is it to only have one? Who will you fight with. So Baby Twerp is gettin one too. It will be taller than him. Amen.
Please don't judge me. You say no to these eyes......
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIDDLE TWERP! You are my miracle and my joy. I LOVE YOU!

Life Is Now Like a Song,
Momma

Happy birthday my little buddy. It is amazing how fast little munchkins grow up! 5 years is a loo--oooong time to walk the land of OZ. You have made the Rainbow much brighter since you arrived. Thanks for being the ray of light that makes us all feel better about being alive. You are so lucky to have a big sister and a little brother to walk by your side. Well if I must say it I will, Mom and dad are ok too. You bless the world and most of all I am glad you are part of my life. You help keep the beat in my heart!

There's nothing like it!! Parenthood, it leaves you completely vulnerable. It's exhausting and wonderful all at once:)

That's it. I'm jumping in the car and coming to Hotlanta. What sweetie little cheeks he has. And those eyes, CG. No, I could not say no. Happy Birthday and may all your nerf gun dreams come true.

BTW, if you don't buy 'em guns, they'll make 'em out of graham crackers!

LOVE those dimples! You're children are beautiful and I enjoy reading your posts. Your post about adoption really helped a friend of mine while they were waiting to get their children - thank you!
