To Pet or Not To Pet

My Twerps are nagging me like crazy about a pet. After Baby Twerp's mild hospital stay and his request for a puppy -- they have not let up.

The only think is, there is no consensus on WHAT pet to get. We are all over the place - from hogs to birds to cats to dogs to dolphins.

We just can't decide.

As I was talking to my friend this morning, she gave me some very wise advice that I think might have sealed the deal.

She said, "Whatever you chose, you have to be prepared to get your family photo taken with this pet for the rest of your Christmas', holidays, and family events."

And I thought, how bad can that be? It would only be strange if I got some weird unusual pet, right?Or waaaayyyyy too many of a pet, right?Uhm, Oh Lordy Be.I think it is official. I just don't think we are ready for this kind of commitment.

I feel your pain! My twerp has been saving up her money since Christmas to get a hedgehog. We pick up a 6 week old "hoglet" next weekend. She already asked to have her summer photo with the little guy.

Get a fish! They are self-contained in a little bowl. If they die, you can replace without any of the kids knowing. We have had everything from ducks to cows. The pigs didn't work out when they realized we were raising them for food. Fish was the best choice ever!

I have never had a family photo taken with a pet. Thank the Lord. But...if you must then I suppose you should choose a ferret. That would be different. :-)

you'll know when you meet your pet face to face that it is part of your family already. That's how I felt when I saw Daisy. She was just a part of me and I knew I had to take her home that day!

When I was younger I had my annual spring pics taken first with our poodle, then with our heeler/rott mix. Looking back now its just another really great memory of two wonderful pets. And I was 11/13 so I think thats okay - I bet a puppy would look pretty darn cute in a pic with BT, MT & ET! (I must say though I never sported a shirt with their pic on it...although there was the christmas card with my dad and our poodles...one as santa the other a reindeer so what do I know!)

My mom brought a pot bellied piglet home once - they are really cute when they are small - then they get HUGEHUGEHUGE...on the plus they will eat all of your food scraps!

Hmm...we have 3 birds, fish, a ferret, a dog, and are getting ready to adopt a new puppy this August (see my blog for pics of the new puppy if you might be wanting one :-D )...we don't have any christmas photos with our pets..what a mess that would be!

My vote is for a dog!
