The Songs of Coutry Girl's Past

UPDATE: I must confess. I must come clean, wash my hands of this. Okay, it kept me up all night that I did not add the one song that I went and bought the single cassette at Wal Mart in my hometown and played it OVER AND OVER AND OVER again and again when I was seventeen in my Honda Accord and cried for her loneliness and dedication and swore I would name my first daughter after her. Plus it was released the year I was born which I think makes it destiny. I felt like I had been dishonest with you by withholding this embarrassing information. I have sworn that I will always be honest and faithful to you so I must post this song. And I think people judged this band a little prematurely. I mean they can rock out, but they also have a love for the classical side. Did you see the French Horn? (DD would be so proud) and the violin? See, I always knew they were good boys at heart. Shew, I feel so much better getting that off my chest, thanks for listening.

I big pink fuzzy heart with glitter and pom poms LOVE music. I want to wear its class ring and wrap it in dental floss and wear its letterman's jacket to the football game and claim it as MINE ALL MINE!

I was a little ahead of my time with music cause I had an older brother and I sucked all my taste in classic rock from him. I was in my 11 year old SUV gas guzzler today and some songs came on that transported me back to places long ago. I could remember what I was wearing, the smells, the sights, the experiences, and the feeling of being there. It was almost unbelievable. Take a stroll down memory lane with me. {Click on the colored links to listen to the songs. Let me know if any do not work. Enjoy.}

The song I danced to in college more than any other song was Strokin. I am so embarrassed to admit this. There was this bar called Coyotes and we actually had a LINE DANCE to this song and I VIVIDLY remember wearing an off white half shirt with a hot pink and teal plaid shirt over it and tied it up like Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island and I so thought I was all that in my tight pants and cropped shirt. I was such a dork.

The song that brings back the memory of all my sorority sisters surrounding me at my wedding, singing, and making me cry is the Brown Eyed Girl. This was the song we sang at every party in college and makes me miss Chelli, Monica, Mindy, Kari, Wendy, Kristen, and all my girls!

When I got my very first boom box, I was so excited that I recorded this Def Leppard song off the radio and listened to it 8,421 times so I could have it memorized cause I wanted to show off on the playground cause I was super cool like that.

This Prince song I actually stood in front of the mirror when I was in fourth grade with my hairbrush and made up hand and body moves to this song. I think I SO could have been a back up singer. I was just never discovered. It is still hard for me to talk about.

And come on now...any 1994 grads out there? You had to dance to this Motley Crue song. My freshman year of high school I went to my first high school dance and had a SENIOR ask me to dance, it was this song. And he never spoke to me after. I felt so used. It is still hard for me to deal with...and no, it was not my brother.

This ZZ Top song was my brother's theme song in high school. Sorry to dime ya out and all, but you know it was true. You spent HOURS in our ONLY bathroom getting all pumped up for your dates to this song. I am just tellin it like it is.

I fell in love with Indiana Jones to Marvin Gaye and then cinched it with this song too.

This Scorpion song is my all time fave song that totally stokes me up and makes me roll down my windows and sing at the top of my lungs and dance in the car. This is my celebration song when things are going great. I have NO IDEA why, it has to have deep psychological roots.

And in high school Karen (don't deny it Karen) and I knew the ALL the words to the Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer song. And I will go ahead and admit that we had some moves to them too...Ya, I know. Jealous? (bouncing one one leg)

This was the first song I heard on my car radio when I was 16. It was the coolest...and I still have no idea what it is about.

This other Poison song was what Deena and I listened to as I mourned the break up of me and Sean. It helped....I am finally over it.

And last but not least, this song makes me love the world again.

Love your song choices!!! It was I was back in Jr High and High school. I love and I mean really loved Motley Crue and Poison. Love me sone Nikki Sixx. Did I just say that outloud, sorry.
It's so cool how we can just be driving along and then hear a song and it can transport you back in time. And when it does you remember exactly where you were or what you were doing.
Thanks for sharing.

Classics! My Sean Connery gets all hepped up over the Brown Eyed Girl song.. one time ANOTHER guy asked me to dance when that came on, and he nearly had a freak attack (internally - he didn't want to show it on the outside) Thank YOU for no Brittany or Celine.

And I am almost ashamed to tell you that I am going through each one of these You Tube videos on my iTouch at the end of the day at work! (Pour Some Sugar...right now)

I'm quite older than you - but I love this playlist!

I loved this post and I followed MOST of the links. It made me think of all the old songs that had special moments in my life. I might do a similar post, if I can get the courage. You know my songs were oh so long ago that they don't even play them on the oldies station anymore.
